What's happening today...
Start off the day with the warm-up
Yesterday you found the cheapest way to get a BA and chose the school. When I was in college, I was BROKE and financial aid was just enough to get me a bagel with peanut butter and jam at the DC, a hot doc at Costco and Marchan "Bag O Ramen" for dinner. Back in the olden days, this literally cost under $3. Bagel was $1, hot dog was $1.50 and ramen was $.30 (If I felt like flexing, I would get the Cup Noodle).
So I had to find a way to make some money. My first job was working for the Cal State University Monterey Bay Marketing Department where I was a graphic designer. It was cool but I was in a cubicle all alone most of the day so it got boring. I decided to venture off campus and I got a job a Sally Beauty Supply (I was into different hair colors and styles back then so I was all about the discounts). I didn't have a car at the time so I took the bus there. My first day there was an insane storm, thunder, lightning, flooded streets, all of it. By the time I got to work, I was soaked, cold and miserable. The person I was working with turned out to be super weird, like uncomfortably weird and I had a bad bad feeling that this was not going to be an enjoyable experience so I told them I was not going to return after the first day.
I finally found the job I loved, I was the editor in chief at the university newspaper and I would cover the journalism class when the instructor was out. It was a fun job and I could actually afford to go out and do things.
You found your school, now let's research ways to find a job while you are going to school.
Go to your favorite LLM/Chatbot and add
"I am a college freshman at ADD THE SCHOOL YOU CHOSE HERE and I am searching for a job in the ADD YOUR SCHOOL LOCATION area. List ways for a student to find a job."
Check out the resources and find a job that you might be interested in doing while you go to school.
In a doc, add the link to the job, copy and paste the job info and tell me why you think you would enjoy doing this to make some extra cash.
What are you learning?
Presentation Skills
Why is it important?
A game developer may need to pitch a game to a publisher to get the green light to produce the game.
How do you show that you understand? What is the assignment?
Today you will work on a google slides to create a presentation on pitching/presenting your game. You will present on Wednesday
You will need to:
Introduce yourself
Explain overall what you were required to do, including software used
Present the artwork for your game
Talk about the process… step by step, what did you do?
Reflect on successes and challenges you had making your world
Demonstrate your game
Conclude the presentation in a thoughtful manner.
