The year was 1981 and my stepdad wanted a Donkey Kong Cocktail Arcade Machine badly! They were giving one out on the local radio station and that guy would call in every single day trying to qualify. We were pretty broke so there was no chance of getting this machine though a purchase. He never qualified and he died of brain cancer a few years ago.

So I am looking at marketplace and I come across one that is for sale. The guy wants $500 for the machine (which is a screaming deal but my wife would not be happy if I just randomly spend $500 on an old arcade game). In the ad, he writes that it used to be his father's machine and he wants to sell it to the right person who will restore it.

I respond to the ad and tell him I am that guy but I can realistically only pay $300 for it. Some on these old machines are going for $2,500+ so I doubted he would accept the offer.

Well he does respond and says he will sell it to me for $300 and says he is trusting me to fix it up.

My son and I drive my truck over to the guy's house. He accidently gave me the address of 225 instead of 325 so we originally went to the wrong place.

We find the guy and he goes on to tell me that the machine is his father’s who has since passed. He was a well known guy around town who retired from PG&E.

As I am packing it up, I see the pain in the guy’s eyes, he is letting go of a memory of his father. I tell him that I will make it awesome and when it is done, I will bring it to CART and I would like to invite he and his family to open house where he can play the machine.

You may interpret this any way you wish BUT anything you do for this project must be respectful.

You are to be working on this project the entire time we are in class with the exception of English Time. No phone, no other games, just work.
